When it comes to natural and healthy skin we can’t forget our lips. Too often we don’t think anything about them until they become dry, cracked and sore. This is why I always like to make sure that I have a natural lip balm to keep the skin of my lips soft and protected. Even though there’s some good ones on the market, I prefer to use my own homemade versions that I’d like to share with you right now. These three are wonderful and easy to make.
Homemade Lavender Lip Balm
With this homemade recipe you can use any kind of essential oil but I myself really like lavender. But feel free to do whatever you prefer if you choose to try this balm for your lips.
Note: This does make a pretty soft balm but it still holds up well as long as you put it in a clean container with a lid.
4 tablespoons of any one of these oils; jojoba, almond or olive oil
1 tablespoon of grated beeswax or you can use beeswax pearls
1 teaspoon of honey
¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
7 drops of lavender essential oil or your own favorite oil
1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
Take and combine the oils, honey and the beeswax in a small stainless steel saucepan. Make sure that you warm the ingredients on a very low heat. Keep stirring until the beeswax is totally melted. Next remove the saucepan from the heat, put mixture in a small bowl and whisk in the essential oil, cocoa powder and the vitamin E oil. When you’re done doing that take a shallow pan and put ice water in it and put the bowl in this ice water and whisk quickly and add your honey. After the honey is mixed in put the natural lip balm in your container with the lid and let it set for about 3 hours before you put it on your lips.
Homemade Coco-Rosey Lip Balm
Not only is this homemade natural lip balm great for the lips but it can also be used for your hands and face as a moisturizer. It also smells wonderful.
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of grated cocoa butter
1 tablespoon of dried rosebuds
¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
3 drops of rose essential oil
Take a small stainless steel saucepan and melt the coconut oil on extremely low heat. After the oil has melted add your roses and mix well. Let the mixture steep on extremely low heat for about an hour. After that take and strain the oil into a small bowl through a mesh sieve or some cheesecloth. Wipe out the saucepan and pour your oil back in it and return it to the low heat. Now you can add the cocoa butter and stir until that’s melted. Take off the heat and add your vitamin E oil and your rose essential oil and mix together well. Put this balm into a small container with a lid and put a lid on it and let it set for about three hours before putting this wonderful balm on our lips.
Homemade Chocolate Mint Lip Balm
Just the smell alone of this natural homemade lip balm is heavenly and you love the cooling affect that it has on your lips. If you don’t try the other two, this one alone is a must try because it’s well worth the effort of making it.
1 tablespoon of grated beeswax or beeswax pearls
1/8 cup of coconut oil
½ tablespoon of shea butter
½ tablespoon of cocoa butter
½ teaspoon of honey
1teaspoon of cocoa powder
1/8 teaspoon of vitamin E oil
3 drops of peppermint essential oil
Take a small stainless steel saucepan and put in the shea and cocoa butters and then add the coconut oil. Make sure to heat on low heat for about 20 minutes and make sure to stir. Next add your beeswax and stir really good. After that has melted totally take the mixture off the stove and add your essential oil, vitamin E, honey and the cocoa powder and whisk good the whole time you are combining these items. After the mixture is nice and smooth pour this wonderful homemade lip balm into a container with a lid and let it set for around three hours before you use it.
I hope that you will try one of these wonderful homemade natural lip balms and see which one you like the best. Who knows, you might be like me and love all three of them! No matter which one you pick all of them will help you maintain healthy skin on your lips
